Banyan Bar + Refuge:
Kitchen Manager

Kitchen Manager responsibilities include supervising the food prep and cooking, maintaining a fully-stocked kitchen inventory and complying with safety and cleanliness standards. To be successful in this role, you should be able to manage our kitchen staff and guide them to deliver quality food on time. Ultimately, you will ensure all plates are properly cooked and served and our customers have a pleasant dining experience.

Job includes but is not limited to: 

  • Manage kitchen staff and coordinate food orders

  • Supervise food prep and cooking

  • Check food plating and temperature

  • Establish portion sizes

  • Schedule kitchen staff shifts

  • Price menu items in collaboration with the Restaurant Manager

  • Order food supplies and kitchen equipment, as needed

  • Train kitchen staff on prep work and food plating techniques

  • Store food products in compliance with safety practices (e.g. in refrigerators)

  • Keep weekly and monthly cost reports

  • Maintain sanitation and safety standards in the kitchen area

Requirements:

  • Proven work experience as a Kitchen Manager, Restaurant Manager or Head Chef

  • Hands-on experience with planning menus and ordering ingredients

  • Knowledge of a wide range of recipes

  • Familiarity with kitchen sanitation and safety regulations

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Conflict management abilities

  • Ability to manage a team in a fast-paced work environment

  • Flexibility to work during evenings and weekends

  • Certification from a culinary school or degree in Restaurant Management is a plus

Compensation:

  • $55,000-$65,000 per year

  • Yearly bonuses (owner discretion)

Banyan Bar + Refuge:
Servers

Banyan Bar + Refuge, located in Boston's South End is looking for an enthusiast and knowledgeable server, or two, to join our team. No previous experience is needed although encouraged. Pay starts at $6.15 per hour + tips. 

Job Description:

The responsibility of a service team member (servers and bartenders) is to serve and sell food and beverage in a hospitable and efficient manner and to collect payment. Other job requirements include:

  • Treating your teammates with respect

  • Upholding the standards set by The Gallows Group (see below)

  • Knowing the entire food and beverage menu 

  • Attending all scheduled staff training

  • Arriving on time daily

  • Knowing steps of service (see below)

  • Take time outside of the space to educate yourselves on industry vocabulary and standards

  • Coming into the space with a good attitude and a smile

  • Asking questions

  • Understanding the guest is your employer

  • Working with intention and integrity 

  • Paying attention to detail

  • Creating the best possible experience for your guests

Counter Staff

Blackbird Doughnuts is hiring for full and part-time counter staff at ALL locations.
Pay starts at $15 per hour ($18 at our Harvard Square location) - $6.75 base pay + tips to always reach $15 or $18 per hour

Job includes but is not limited to: 

  • greeting customers in a hospitable manner 

  • describing doughnuts and selection menu 

  • preparing doughnut, coffee, and sandwich orders 

  • making coffee + tea (espresso bars at Newton + Beacon Hill locations) 

  • cleaning and maintaining the shops (doing dishes)

  • trash removal 

  • Preparing and packaging food products 

Requirements:

  • lift at least 25lbs

Driver

Blackbird Doughnuts is hiring for a part-time driver Friday-Sunday 5am-12pm

Pay starts at $21 per hour

Job includes but is not limited to: 

  • delivering product to shops

  • trash removal 

  • catering deliveries

  • shop checks

  • cleaning + organizing 

Requirements:

  • lift at least 50lbs 

  • be available at 5am

  • have a valid US drivers license

Line Cook

Sally's Sandwiches (both locations - below) is looking for line cooks. Pay starts at $16.80 per hour and benefits are available for full-time employees. 

Job includes but is not limited to: 

  • fulfilling orders

  • light dish duty 

  • allergen and ingredient knowledge of all menu items

  • following opening and closing procedures
