Banyan Bar + Refuge:
Kitchen Manager

Kitchen Manager responsibilities include supervising the food prep and cooking, maintaining a fully-stocked kitchen inventory and complying with safety and cleanliness standards. To be successful in this role, you should be able to manage our kitchen staff and guide them to deliver quality food on time. Ultimately, you will ensure all plates are properly cooked and served and our customers have a pleasant dining experience.

Job includes but is not limited to: 

  • Manage kitchen staff and coordinate food orders

  • Supervise food prep and cooking

  • Check food plating and temperature

  • Establish portion sizes

  • Schedule kitchen staff shifts

  • Price menu items in collaboration with the Restaurant Manager

  • Order food supplies and kitchen equipment, as needed

  • Train kitchen staff on prep work and food plating techniques

  • Store food products in compliance with safety practices (e.g. in refrigerators)

  • Keep weekly and monthly cost reports

  • Maintain sanitation and safety standards in the kitchen area

Requirements:

  • Proven work experience as a Kitchen Manager, Restaurant Manager or Head Chef

  • Hands-on experience with planning menus and ordering ingredients

  • Knowledge of a wide range of recipes

  • Familiarity with kitchen sanitation and safety regulations

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Conflict management abilities

  • Ability to manage a team in a fast-paced work environment

  • Flexibility to work during evenings and weekends

  • Certification from a culinary school or degree in Restaurant Management is a plus

Compensation:

  • $65,000-$70,000 per year

  • Yearly bonuses (owner discretion)

Blackbird Dougnuts:
Production Manager

Blackbird Doughnuts is seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead our commissary baking team. Blackbird is a Boston-based bakery with 7 stores and is growing! Our 6000sqft commissary is in Brighton MA. 

The role of the Production Manager is to lead the bakery/commissary with success by taking ownership of all things related to baking and maintaining an organized and efficient process for regular operations. The Production Manager runs morning production with attention to detail, creating a vibrant culture and a healthy team setting. The role requires the execution of Blackbird Doughnuts high standards and team accountability. 

The Production Manager is a part of the leadership team and is responsible for all day-to-day operations related to production, and training the production staff. 

To be successful in this role, the Production Manager must have leadership skills, time management skills, organizational skills, customer service skills, extensive knowledge of baking and working with dough and what the industry is doing/serving, and a motivation to keep responsible areas clean and presentable.

Job includes but is not limited to: 

  • Attending all Leadership Team meetings

  • Set a positive tone and strong work ethic, leading by example

  • Train and educate the team on Blackbird s process and policies

  • Communicate information and any changes to the team

  • Manage quantities to be baked, ensuring we have stock but also keeping waste to a minimum

  • Discard any pastry that does not meet our high-quality standards

  • Execute large custom orders

  • Execute occasional pre-order specialties 

  • Keep areas clean and presentable, modifying checklists as needed to maintain a clean environment

  • Keep Inventory for baking related ingredients and order, or report to Culinary Lead to order as needed

  • Assess what needs to be accomplished, then prioritize and delegate

  • Keep the team motivated and working, checking for quality and thoroughness

  • Notice if equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs

  • Comply with FDA and local health and safety regulations

Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience in high volume bakery or production setting

  • 3+ years experience working with yeasted products ideally doughnuts

  • Familiarity with all professional kitchen equipment, including mixers, blenders, dough sheeters, commercial fryers + proof boxes

  • Understanding of food safety practices

  • Experience with decoration techniques

  • Excellent time-management skills

  • Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment

  • Team spirit, with a customer-focused attitude

  • Early morning shifts

  • Proficiency in Spanish is required 

  • Certification from a culinary school is a plus

 

Compensation:

  • $70,000 - $85,000 per year

  • Yearly bonuses (owner discretion) 

  • Paid sick time for all employees (full and part time - 40 hours per year)

Counter Staff

Blackbird Doughnuts is hiring for full and part-time counter staff at ALL locations.
Pay starts at $18 per hour - $6.75 base pay + tips to always reach $18 per hour

Job includes but is not limited to: 

  • greeting customers in a hospitable manner 

  • describing doughnuts and selection menu 

  • preparing doughnut, coffee, and sandwich orders 

  • making coffee + tea (espresso bars at Newton + Beacon Hill locations) 

  • cleaning and maintaining the shops (doing dishes)

  • trash removal 

  • Preparing and packaging food products 

Requirements:

Pay starts at $21 per hour
